Meg Gurley and Judy Mehravari

If you stop by to make a food donation at the Food Pantry, make sure to say hi to Meg Gurley and Judy Mehravari who will be ready to collect your items upon your arrival. Meg and Judy have been volunteering on this Tuesday slot ever since it was introduced. Meg has been volunteering for STEAC for about three years and Judy for about two and a half years.

“Volunteering at STEAC is a very satisfying feeling. It’s nice getting out and talking to people.”

Judy became involved with STEAC after retiring and moving back to Davis where she grew up. Besides volunteering on Tuesdays, Judy also volunteers for other shifts during the week and also helps coordinate between the Davis Lutheran Church, STEAC, and the UC Davis Food Pantry whenever there is excess food.

Meg became involved with STEAC by volunteering at the Food Project food drives, but later began signing up for more regular volunteer positions at the Food Pantry. This year, she become one of our newest STEAC Board members and now helps decide program changes, policy updates, and more. One aspect that she likes about this particular shift is that she gets to interact with food donors. She says, “I get to tell people about other programs that STEAC offers because we have one-on-one time with them.”
