Food Project Dates

Feeding Davis One Bag at a Time

The STEAC Food Project’s mission is to help Davis’ STEAC Food Pantry have a steady, reliable source of non-perishable food year-round by collecting food from community members every other month. While food drives are an invaluable and critical source of food, they provide only about 30 to 40% of our needs and we often run short between these events.

Opportunity to Lend a Helping Hand

How does it work?

It is a simple system built around two types of volunteers: Neighborhood Coordinators and Food Donors.

Neighborhood Coordinators (NC) are assigned a neighborhood in Davis where they are responsible for food collection from food donors. Collection days happen once every other month, usually the second Saturday of the month. If a NC cannot make this drop-off date, it is their responsibility to coordinate with their assigned neighborhood to collect and drop off food donations another date/time.

Food collected during the Food Project collection day is brought back to the STEAC Food Pantry where volunteers will sort on site.

Food Donors (FD) are members of a NC’s group that commit to donating food once every other month. They put their non-perishable food donations in a green bag (provided by STEAC) and leave it on their doorstep/curb for the NC to collect. The NC will provide any replacement bags for the next event if needed.

What if I have to miss a month of donations/ pick-ups?

That’s okay! You can contact your NC or the STEAC office to coordinate ahead of time so that they can plan accordingly.
