STEAC STORIES

2025 Food Packs for Kids Campaign

August 18 – September 19

In 2024, forty percent of Yolo County households with children faced food insecurity.*

Children experiencing long term hunger can face a multitude of challenges, affecting their overall well-being and ability to excel in school. Hunger over the weekend is a real problem for families that rely on the free school meals program. When school is not in session, these students may be missing out on meals and going hungry until Monday morning comes again.

Since 2016, STEAC has partnered with the Davis Joint Unified School District to fill the weekend hunger gap by providing low income students with a “Food Pack” every Friday during the school year and throughout the summer. STEAC’s Food Packs for Kids Program provides an assortment of non-perishable food items that are nutrient dense but also kid friendly. These packs are assembled by volunteers and distributed on a weekly basis. Currently, we provide packs to students from pre-k to high school.

Last year, we made our first expansion outside of Davis, marking a new milestone for this program. We now provide 400 Food Packs to schools in Winters on a monthly basis. In 2024, we distributed more than 10,000 food packs to food insecure children across both cities and we hope to keep expanding our reach to those in need.

Join us in the fight to end child hunger in our local communities and support our expansion efforts!

From August 18th until September 19th, your donations will help support our delivery of nearly 1,500 food packs a month to local schools and our efforts to expand this program to meet the needs of the community.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! This year a generous anonymous donor is matching up to $15,000 to support this campaign and all of STEAC’s programs! Consider making a donation, big or small, to support our efforts in fighting food insecurity.
