STEAC STORIES

2024 Food Packs for Kids Campaign

August 19 – September 20

STEAC is on a mission to fight food insecurity in our local schools.

Hunger over the weekend is a real problem for families that rely on free school breakfasts and lunches to provide their children with meals during the school week. Many low-income students in our neighborhoods have little to eat between Friday lunch and Monday morning breakfast. Hunger experienced over the weekend can interfere with children’s learning when they come to school on Monday mornings making it difficult for them to concentrate, causing them to fall behind academically.

Since 2016, STEAC has partnered with the Davis Joint Unified School District to fill the weekend hunger gap by providing low income students with a “Food Pack” every Friday during the school year and throughout the summer. STEAC’s Food Packs for Kids Program provides health conscious and kid appropriate meals packed by volunteers for hungry students every week! Last year, STEAC provided over 8,805 packs to students in need.

Recognizing the need in surrounding communities, STEAC is looking to expand this support to more schools and children in need. We are asking your help to support a ramp up of this valuable service for our community!

From now until September 20th, your donations will help support our delivery of nearly 1,000 food packs a month to local young students in need and also supports our efforts to expand this program to meet the needs of the community.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! This year a generous anonymous donor is matching up to $15,000 to support this campaign and all of STEAC’s programs! Consider making a donation, big or small, to support our efforts in fighting food insecurity.

$250 = 30 Food Packs
