STEAC STORIES
2023 STEAC Holiday Program
The STEAC Holiday Program is a longstanding tradition for the Davis community and in its 56th year, the program had a record-breaking year with most number of households served. A total of 500 low-income Davis families and individuals were matched with adopters who provided food and gifts for the Holiday season. STEAC is extremely thankful to all of the generous adopters who donated food, gifts, money, and time to brighten the Holidays for a family in need.
“Once again, the Davis community proves that it can come together to take care of its own by carrying on this time-honored tradition of brightening the holiday season for local Davis families in need,” said Kelly Coleman, Chair of the STEAC Holiday Program.
In addition to adopters, the STEAC Holiday Program also receives support from hundreds of volunteers who are essential to this program. Volunteers help with flyer distributions, in-person client sign ups, set-up, and much more.
To help reach a wider range of community members in need, STEAC partners with local agencies to help with client sign ups and gift distributions. We are thankful to be partnering with Davis Community Meals, including Paul’s Place and their low-income housing sites, Empower Yolo, Summer House, Homestead House/NAMI, Davis Respite Center, and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Other supporters of the Holiday Program include the Blanketeers of the Project Linus of Yolo County Chapter who donated 325 hand-made blankets, Scott Love at the Yolo County Library and Scott Thomsen at DJUSD who helped with coordination for in-person office hours for clients, the Salvation Army of Davis, and staff and congregation of the First Baptist Church of Davis who year after year have allowed us to use their facilities and grounds for a week to host our Distribution Day.
This program is made possible thanks to our giving community and we thank each and everyone one of you who has supported our mission throughout the years.
