Speaker Series – Yolo Food Bank

September 18, 2024

Our purpose is to provide a forum for local experts in the fields related to STEAC’s mission to share their knowledge and perspective to our STEAC community of staff, volunteers and donors.

Nourishing Our Communities Through Partnerships: Yolo Food Bank

Lorena has been with the Yolo Food Bank for five years now and was first hired on as an office assistant. Her role allowed her to communicate directly with clients where she was able to listen to their stories and better understand their needs. She quickly realized that many of the clients seeking food assistance were also in need of other services like housing, medical care, and more.

Now, in her current role, she is able to collaborate directly with various partner agencies, including STEAC, that may not only provide food assistance but also offer a wide range of essential services to community members in need.

The Yolo Food Bank and STEAC have partnered for many years to help feed our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Most notably, the Yolo Food Bank’s Partner Agency Store allows STEAC and other local agencies to purchase various food items at a steep low price. This allows our dollar to go further and obtain more food to distribute through all of our food programs.

The recording for this web event is available below.

About Speaker Series

The mission of STEAC is to provide immediate short-term assistance with basic necessities to Yolo County families and individuals with income below the poverty level. In addition, STEAC is committed to enlarging the social awareness of the community and to provide opportunities for local citizens to help others in need.

It is the second part of our mission that was the impetus for creating these speaker events.

Our purpose is to provide a forum for local experts in the fields related to STEAC’s mission to share their knowledge and perspective to our STEAC community of staff, volunteers and donors. Our intention is to add to the community conversation around poverty to increase public awareness and inform our actions as individuals and an organization.

If you have some great ideas on who could be a speaker, we are looking for you! STEAC strives to be a volunteer led organization and is creating a “Speakers Committee” to research, nominate, and select the future speakers for what we intend to be a permanent program here at STEAC. If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] and we will get you more information.
