STEAC accepts requests for assistance only by referrals from nonprofit or government agencies.

In order to receive financial assistance from STEAC:

  • You must be a resident of Yolo County, and some programs serve only Davis residents.
  • If the referral agency you contact feels you are an appropriate client for STEAC's services, the agency will contact STEAC on your behalf.
  • The minimum requirements for assistance are income verification and a valid ID for each household member.
  • To seek help, contact a STEAC Referral Agency (see below).



Free Food


STEAC's Food Pantry in Davis provides a week's worth (5 days) of food to every member of a family including fresh foods like dairy, meat and produce.

To receive food from the STEAC Food Pantry, call the STEAC office at 530-758-8435. Please note:

  • Free food from the Food Pantry is provided only to Davis residents.
  • Individuals and families may receive food up to two times each month.
  • You must be a low-income Davis resident to qualify.
  • Residents with recent loss of job or hours will qualify for assistance.
  • Clients are served by appointment only.
  • Families with children enrolled in the Davis Joint Unified School District's free lunch program can call the STEAC office for information about scheduling an appointment at the food closet.



Holiday Program

Food and gifts are provided to qualified individuals and families.

  • Assistance as part of the Holiday Program is available only to Davis residents.
  • Applications are available online and in person starting in early November.



Rental and Utilities Assistance

Assistance for rent and utilities is provided to residents of Yolo County.

Eviction Prevention

  • STEAC pays up to $1,000 in cash assistance for rent to prevent eviction.
  • Recipient must show that other funds are available to pay the rest of the month's rent.
  • Residents can receive eviction prevention rental assistance every six months.

First Month's Rent

  • STEAC provides cash assistance up to $1,000 to help pay for first month's rent for long-term housing.
  • Residents can receive first month's rental assistance every two years.

Utilities

  • Cash assistance up to $500 is given to prevent utilities from being turned off or to have them restored.
  • Residents can receive utilities assistance once a year.



Bill Pay / Financial Help for Family Expenses

  • STEAC offers financial help up to $500 to pay a bill or approved expense for: utilities (electricity, water, gas), driver's licenses, CA ID card, birth certificates, other legal documents, bus passes, housing deposits, work related expenses (work boots), childcare, medical expenses (prescription medication or devices, dental care, eye exams), education-related (internet fees for online learning, supplies/books, tuition), car payments/repairs, and funeral expenses.
  • Documentation is required.
  • Payments are made directly to vendors.



Poverty Guidelines


To qualify for help from STEAC, a client must meet the following income guidelines. These are based on the 2021 Federal Poverty Guidelines + $100/month.
