1,000 Toys Distributed in

2005 Motorcycle Toy Run

Volunteers at the Short Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC) distributed over 1,000 toys received from an annual motorcycle toy drive.

Nearly 5,000 motorcycle enthusiasts took part in the Renegade Classics Toy Drive, which was co-sponsored by the Renegade Classics motorcycle supply store in Sacramento and the Cache Creek Casino.

“The annual motorcycle drive is a great way for us to help children in the Yolo County shelters who don’t participate in our Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program,” said Tom Martens, STEAC’s executive director. “The bikers created toy mountain at the casino, then we gave all the toys away to local programs.”

Martens was referring to the pile of toys that was created at the entrance to the casino after they were delivered by the motorcycle enthusiasts. The annual drive started when some 3,000 of the bikers met in the parking lot of the Sacramento store, then were led in two long strings to the casino. Some 2,000 other bikers met them, filling the outdoor parking lot at the casino.

STEAC collected and then redistributed the toys to:
