The
2004 Holiday Program
Story
The STEAC Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program began in late summer
when an organizing committee was formed and a mailing sent out to businesses
to ask for donations.
In the fall, the committee sets up the calendar, makes arrangements with the
church and creates a network of volunteer subcommittees for various jobs. In late November,
solicitation of gifts and adopters begin with e-mails, telephone calls and mailings.
As adopters are being recruited, another crew of volunteers works to spread the
work about the program to public agencies and those who assistance. Those who want to
receive gifts are screened and approved for the program.
The adopters are matched with the adoptees, who provide their list of needs for the holidays.
The adopters buy the food and gifts and drop them off over at the First Baptist Church in Davis.
In 2004, STEAC benefited from a toy drive that involved nearly 4,000 motorcyclists, which was sponsored
Renegade Classics motorcycle supply store in Sacramento and the Cache Creek Casino. In exchange for the toys, STEAC
volunteers worked at the event at the Sacramento store and at the casino.
These are pictures from that drive:

The bikers filled three parking lots in Sacramento.

STEAC received four vans full of toys from the drive.

The TV cameras were rolling at the event.

ADOPTERS DROPPING OFF FOOD AND GIFTS FOR FAMILIES

Volunteer logged in those bringing in their gifts. The following photos show the
gifts and food being sorted and assembled for distribution.

This is the relatively empty room at the church as the donations just begin to arrive. Each pile of
of boxes contain food for one family.

This the room looks like near the end of the collection process. Gift boxes also filled another room.

The following are pictures of volunteers at the event. STEAC has a policy of not
publishing photos of recipients of service.

There was fine cuisine for the volunteers.
