STEAC HOLIDAY PROGRAM 2018

Introduction

So many of us take for granted that we can afford gifts and food for our friends and relatives during the holiday season. But there are many Davis families who don't have this luxury - instead, they are worrying about setting aside part of their meager income to purchase gifts and food for their children. STEAC's Holiday Adopt-a-Family program provides a way for community members to help these families and also individuals at this time of year.

Still Seeking Winter Coats and Books Donations

STEAC also distributes coats and books to the adopted families when they arrive to receive their gifts and foods. We welcome donations of new or gently used clean children's winter coats, and also gently used children's books. You may deliver them to the First Baptist Church (38141 Russell Blvd., Davis) during any of these dates and times: Tuesday and Wednesday, December 11-12, 11am-2pm & 4pm-6 pm; Thursday, December 13, 7:30am-10am & 4pm-7pm.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for more volunteers to help with the Holiday Program December 11 - 15. If you'd like to help, click here to let us know.

Thank You Adopters and Donors!

Thanks to the incredibly generous community in the Davis area, the over 400 screened individuals and families requesting help with food and gifts this coming holiday season have now all been matched up with adopters. Our final appeal for 49 more adopters was fulfilled in one day! STEAC is so thankful for the help from adopters and donors who have made it possible for the success of this program in its 51st year.

Information for Adopters

You can adopt a family on your own or as part of a group, such as your office, club or business. An eligible family (or individual), who has been screened by a crew of dedicated STEAC volunteers, will be matched with you as their adopter. Adopters and adoptees remain anonymous to each other. All of the details and deadlines for taking part in the program will be provided to you on an adoption form that includes the following information:

  • FOOD - A list of food for you to purchase for your family, based on family size.
  • CHECK - The amount requested will be used to provide a gift certificate for the adopted family to use at a grocery store to purchase fresh food items.
  • GIFTS - A wish list from the family. We ask that you provide at least one new gift valued at about $25 for each family member.

The drop-off days for the adopters this year will be December 11, 12 and 13.
